The state of Texas is filled with hundreds of lakes of all sizes, some perfect for swimming and fishing and others offering perfect sunset views. Finding the perfect lakes in Texas with cabins will allow you a wonderful vacation filled with a balance of activity and relaxation.

Have I mentioned lately that Texas is hot? I mean, really hot? These lake cabin getaways will be lovely all year round but may be most appreciated in the summer when being in the water is the best way to spend time outdoors!

It is important to note, that with the heat comes evaporation which means that some of these lakes tend to get low in elevation in mid-late summer. Always keep your eye on local info to make sure that your lake vacation isn’t hindered by low water levels or toxic algae presence.

Lakes with Cabins in Texas Hill Country

Hill Country is filled with rolling green hills, colorful bluebonnet fields, and, you guessed it – sparkling blue lakes! It was hard to narrow down the best lake cabins in Texas in this area of the state, but we have carefully chosen our favorites below. We hope you love them as much as we do!

Inks Lake

Inks Lake is one of the best things to do in Burnet with its sparkling water, kayak and paddle boat rentals, playground along the waterfront, and gift shop for necessities. Campsites are large with many shade trees.

We love taking the short hike to Devil’s Waterhole to explore the beautiful rocks and swimming hole – we highly recommend it! We also always rent kayaks or pedal boats to discover other area of the lake as well.

The state park cabins at Inks Lake are offered among the tent and RV sites in the campground. The cabins offer bunk beds, a fire pit, picnic table, and electricity. Most cabins are located right on the water making for the perfect place to sip your morning coffee or watch the sunset.

Buchanan Lake

Just down the road from Inks Lake, is the larger Buchanan Lake with plenty of charming cabins to choose from. Black Rock cabins are located at the dam and are the perfect option for those looking for a simple stay with a camping vibe. These colorful cabins come equipped with heat and air conditioning, electricity, and a grill.

This gorgeous lake rental is RIGHT on the lake with a beautiful yard to relax in and a firepit for s’mores. The interior is a beautiful mix of rustic and upscale modern. it might be more of a house than a cabin, but due to all the natural wood and lakefront views that you can’t beat, we had to include it here!

This cozy cabin has both lake access and a swimming pool while this split-level A-frame cabin has a deck over the water and its own fishing pier.

Cabins on Lake Buchanan

Canyon Lake is one of the favorite lakes in Texas and for good reason! Located in the heart of Hill Country, this lake comes alive in spring with beautiful bluebonnet fields, and summer brings many visitors looking to cool off in the blue water with limestone rock shores and rolling green tree-covered hills.

This lake with cabins in Texas offers plenty of lodging options including the infamous Jellystone Park. With cabins that sleep from 4-16 and resort amenities that include a waterpark, arcade, river shuttle service, gem mining, and laser tag, this is a great option for families with children.

Canyon Lake Cabins & Cottages are located on land covered in wildflowers and large shade trees. Their small, medium, and large cabins all include kitchens, air conditioning, and adorable front porches. While these Texas cabins are not lakefront, they are just 5 minutes from the lake and 10 minutes from the Guadalupe River. You might be willing to trade the lake view for the beautiful property filled with outdoor games, swimming pool, and sports courts.

Lake Travis Cabins

Lake Travis is over 63 miles long and winds its way through the greater Austin area beckoning visitors with its blue water and many access points for swimming, boating, and fishing.

The Reserve at Lake Travis is located in a prime location with rentals such as this gorgeous lakefront cabin. The property adds plenty of amenities to go along with the view, like pickleball, resort-style pool, cabanas, and a swim up bar.

Though not a cabin, Lakeway Resort & Spa is also worth a look when the occasion calls for a little more luxury.

If you’d like the experience getaway on the island on Lake Travis, this villa on the lake is sure to please.

For something a little more secluded, this Texas stone lake cabin has a large yard, lakefront access, and a cozy interior. On Lake Travis, you’ll also find gems such as this one with its log cabin exterior and interior-design décor. Its front row of the lake isn’t too shabby either!

Garner State Park

While not technically on a lake, this river is so special that I included it anyway. I think you’ll be glad I did! With almost three miles of the Frio River and 16 miles of hiking trails (check out Mount Old Baldy!), Garner State Park is the perfect spot for a family vacation.

Tubing or canoeing down the clear river is the best way to beat the summer heat and one of the best things to do in Hill Country – hands down! Geocaching, mini golf, and fishing are also popular here. In the summer evenings, guest gather for dancing with the jukebox as they have for several generations.

Garner State Park offers cabins with bathrooms, AC and heating options, and even fireplaces! This State Park is one of the best places to spot fall colors in Texas, so a cozy cabin would make for a perfect fall weekend getaway too!

If you’d prefer a cabin right outside the park or a great option for a larger family, we love this riverfront cabin with a grill and fire ring or this larger cabin on the river that sleeps 15!

Lake Cabins in Waco

Live Oak Cabins are pure luxury with their gorgeous architecture and both Nordic and Japanese influences. While not on an actual lake, they are on a pond that feels like a lake! Paddle boarding and kayaks are available too.

Their upscale beds are so comfortable and their kitchens are so well-equipped that you just might WANT to cook on vacation. I could go on and on, but the best part? The floor to ceiling glass walls to help connect you with the nature and the beauty of the water right outside the front door.

North Texas Lake Cabins

Lake Possum Kingdom

Possum Kingdom boasts 300 miles of shoreline which means that there is way too much to do here for just a day trip! So pack your bags and book a sweet cabin on the lake and stay a night or two. The state park cabins are air conditioned and the water is cool and blue – perfect for Texas summers!

Not only does Bonita Shores rent pontoon boats, kayaks, and paddleboats, but they have lake front cottages onsite as well. Offering full kitchens and both 1 and 2 bedroom options, makes it a family-friendly option for a lake cabin in Texas.

Lake Granbury

Lake Granbury is a beautiful lake created by a dam on the Brazos River. Historic Granbury is a charming town to explore complete with drive-in theater and tasty restaurants. Granbury City Beach Park is a great spot to visit with its sandy beach imported from South Padre Island. Rent a paddleboard, bring a volleyball to play with on the sand, or just float around the lake.

Many vacation rentals circle the lake so you have plenty to choose from. We love the Firefly Cottage for its lakefront property and charming deck. The huge, comfy living room makes this lake house a perfect choice for large families, the large glass sliding doors on this cottage are absolute perfection, and this quaint A-frame cabin is a great home base for all the fun to be had in Granbury.

Cabins on Lake Whitney

Swimming, boating and fishing easily fill visitors’ days at Lake Whitney. The scenic bluffs and protective coves are perfect for exploring and providing plenty of enjoyment being in and on the water. The clear night sky provides ample opportunity for star gazing.

Cliffview Resort is a beautiful property just a short drive or walk up the hill from the lake. Onsite are 26 cabins, a boat marina for guests, a swimming pool, and plenty of family games like horseshoes and shuffleboard.

As with many state parks, Lake Whitney also offers cabins that sleep up to four people. The AC will keep you comfortable on even the hottest of Texas summer days. A fire ring and indoor table make for easy meal prep and plenty or mature trees provide shade in many of the campsites.

If you’d like something a little more private, then don’t miss this breath-taking lake cabin. I’ve just added it to my own personal travel bucket list! The private walkway down to the lake is amazing!

This other cozy cabin has a wrap-around porch that it is the perfect place to enjoy the porch swing and an evening cup of tea. And if you are a sucker for sunsets (I am! I am!), check out the hot tub with a lakefront sunset view at this 5 bedroom rental.

Lake Texoma

Lake Texoma straddles the border of Texas and Oklahoma. Its views are beautiful and its fishing is fantastic, so millions of visitors flock to its shores each year.

Lake Texoma Camping Resort has cute, rustic cabins that offer good value and good reviews. Kitchens, private bathrooms, and community swimming pool are all included.

While this fantastic A-frame cabin doesn’t have a lakefront view, it does have an incredible forest location with beautiful views of the trees from the deck, a fire pit, and plenty of trails to explore. The lake is just a short walk away.

This tree top house is unique and worth a look for sure! If you are looking for a lake house that sleeps 10 and is built tall above the trees with an incredible lake view, then you just found it!

Lake Lewisville

One of the largest lakes in Texas, Lake Lewisville offers all the things that a good lake should. So you will find no lack of fishing, swimming holes, boat rentals, beaches, campgrounds, and coves to explore.

Hidden Cove Park Campground has newly built cabins in their campground that sleep 6 people. A great budget friendly options for a prime lakefront location with a full kitchen in a gorgeous campground.

Perhaps two of the cutest lake cabins in Texas on our list, are this little lake cabin and this one. Sit on the front porch and watch the sunset, take a stroll and visit the longhorns, play in the water in the cove, or take a quick drive into town for dinner.

Lake Conroe Cabins

Canoeing, swimming holes, fishing, playground, watersports, oh my! Lake Conroe is located near Houston and is a popular spot for good reason. With 157 miles of shoreline, there are two excellent swimming areas and plenty of cabins for lodging. Don’t miss the nearby attractions including Sam Houston National Forest, the Lake Conroe lighthouse, and dinner lakeside at Monty’s Lighthouse.

For those looking for a lake cabin with a side of upscale resort experiences, Margaritaville Resorts might be the perfect place for you! Their lakeside cottages are perfectly colorful and designed with great taste. Resort amenities include a waterpark, spa, golf club, tennis courts, and cabanas.

If you prefer a quieter atmosphere, the views from this cabin will sweep you off your feet. Jetski and pontoon boat rentals nearby are an added bonus! This adorable tiny house will sleep ten and its well -equipped kitchen and beautiful deck will help create amazing family dinners each evening.

Double Lake

In addition to the usual swimming, boating, and fishing that Texas lakes do so well, Double Lake Recreation Area takes it up a notch with its incredible 21 mile mountain bike trail that winds around the lake. The Lone Star Hiking Trail gifts those on foot with a beautiful 5 mile trail to explore. The Sam Houston National Forest provides plenty of green trees and shade to this beautiful lake.

If you are lucky enough to find this lakefront cabin available, once you watch the sunset from the deck, you will never want to leave! It sleeps 10, so bring the whole family and fill your days fishing and swimming off of the private deck.

While you can’t see the lake from this woodsy cabin in the forest, you can walk there each day to play in the water. You’ll love the rustic wooded interior – so cozy!

Lake Houston

Just a short drive from downtown Houston is Lake Houston formed by the San Jacinto River. Popular for swimming and boating alike, this pretty lake offers many convenient places to stay.

We are loving lakefront cabin that sleeps 9 and has an incredible deck and sunset view. The abundance of windows helps bring the outside in when you need a break from the heat. The boathouse is an added bonus to this lovely property.

Toledo Bend Lake

Toledo Bend is a angler’s paradise with its 289 square miles water that straddles the Texas/ Louisiana border.

The simple, rustic cabins at Bridge Bay Resort are a great choice for those who value a boathouse and fish cleaning station after a long day on the lake. Check out Cabin #16 – it is adorable!

Larger groups will love this Texas lakefront cabin that sleeps 11. Its large porch is perfect for evenings on Toledo Lake.
