As the holiday season approaches in Texas, Round Rock Christmas Lights start twinkling! The small city just outside of Austin, starts gearing up for its annual Christmas light displays and events at the end of November and stays lit up all season long!
We live just a half hour from Round Rock so always have it on our list of places to explore each year. Pair your trip to view the lights with a trip to Round Rock donuts and you are sure to have a happy family! Or is that just us?!
Residents and visitors alike can enjoy the twinkling lights and festive décor throughout the city, including at Old Settlers Park, Hometown Holiday on Main Street, and the gorgeous Twinkling Water Tower. Where to See Round Rock Christmas Lights
Round Rock is known for its amazing Texas Christmas light displays and events during the holiday season – you just might find it to be one of the most magical Christmas towns in Texas! Whether you’re looking for a drive-through light show, live music, or holiday food, Round Rock has something for everyone. Here are some of the best places to see Christmas lights in Round Rock:
Downtown Round Rock
Downtown Round Rock is a must-see during the holiday season. The historic streets are lined with twinkling lights and festive décor.
You can also take a stroll through Prete Plaza, where you’ll find a beautiful Christmas tree and other holiday displays.
Water Tower Park has a gorgeous water tower covered in twinkling lights.
Centennial Plaza brings some celestial décor to Round Rock with a gorgeous, giant star and twinkling trees.
Old Settlers Park
- 2023 Dates: Friday and Saturday evenings in December
- Admission: Free
You can also check out the Old Settlers Association Christmas Towne, which includes festive food, a petting zoo, decorated historic exhibits, entertainment, and visits from Santa Claus. This event takes place on Friday and Saturday evenings throughout the season. This event is free to the public.
The Thomas Carnival is sometimes right next door at Dell Diamond and features unlimited rides for adults and children with the purchase of a wristband. I’m betting you can get great views of all the Round Rock Christmas lights from the Ferris wheel!
Kalahari Resorts
Whether or not you plan to stay at Kalahari and enjoy getting to swim and water slide in winter, stop by the lobby and check out their grand lit up tree. You just might find it worth it to stay awhile and enjoy all the festive fun they have to offer! Their Model Train Show is also a huge hit every year.
Hometown Holiday

Hometown Holiday is a month long event that takes place in Downtown Round Rock. It features twinkling lights up and down Main Street, live music several nights a week, and holiday shopping galore.
Light Up the Lake
- 2023 Dates: December 1-2
- Admission: Free
Light Up the Lake is a two-day holiday festival that you won’t want to miss! We did miss it last year, but won’t make the same mistake this December!
Head to the lake and festival area at Old Settlers Park for Light up the Lake. It features a tree lighting ceremony, live music, giant lit up balloons, crafts, tasty treats, and other holiday displays. This event is a great way to get into the holiday spirit and is free and open to the public.

Round Rock is a city that loves to celebrate the holiday season, and there are plenty of events to enjoy beyond the Christmas light displays. Here are a few other events that highlight some of the other exciting holiday happenings in Round Rock.
Live Music and Performances
The holiday season is a time for music and performances, and Round Rock has plenty of both. The Hometown Holiday event brings weekly live music events and Christmas lights to the city’s downtown area. Additionally, the Round Rock Community Choir performs a selection of holiday classics at their Sounds of the Season event.
Model Train Show

The Tinplate Trackers Model Trains is a popular holiday event that has been drawing thousands of Round Rock families for many years. The event features an amazing display of model trains at Kalahari Resort and Conventions. Check it out in the Tom Foolery Adventure Park at Kalahari Resorts from the weekend after Thanksgiving until Christmas.
Santa Claus Sightings
Santa Claus is a busy man during the holiday season, but he always makes time for Round Rock. Prete Plaza is a popular spot to find Santa Claus during the holiday season during special events. Wishful list makers can also find him at Bass Pro Shop, Round Rock Outlets, and Santa’s Jingle House.
Holiday Food and Drinks
The holiday season is also a time for….delicious food and drinks! The Yogurt Experience on Meandering Way offers a variety of holiday treats, including peppermint hot chocolate and eggnog frozen yogurt.
