Here’s what you need to know before embarking on your San Antonio pick your own strawberries adventure:

  • Wear comfortable clothes and shoes: Strawberry fields can be muddy and dusty, so make sure to wear sturdy shoes that can handle some dirt. You’ll also want to dress in layers as temperatures can vary throughout the day.
  • Bring sunscreen and water: The sun can be intense out in the fields, so protect yourself with plenty of sunscreen and bring along a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.
  • Don’t forget your container! Many farms provide containers for picking but feel free to bring your own as well! While baskets are great for photos – they’re not ideal when transporting berries back home safely. On a warm day, a cooler would be handy for keeping berries fresh.
  • Choose the best time of day: Strawberries are best picked early in the morning when temperatures are cooler and crops are fuller. Be sure to get there early if you want first dibs on the choicest berries!

Every spring, Poteet hosts their annual Strawberry Picking Festival! Local growers all compete for the best strawberries, while attendees enjoy many festival booths, rodeos, live bands, carnivals, and many tasty items to eat. Mark your calendars for April!

Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a first-time picker, there’s something for everyone at this idyllic farm. As a family favorite for many years, it is a great farm to check out – just remember to check their update link for availability and weather delays.

If you’d rather not pick your own, you are welcome to leave it to the experts and pick up a flat of already freshly picked berries. 2023 prices are $20 for a half flat box or $16 for a smaller box. Container is provided.

HR Farms

HR Farms will hand you a cute white basket and invite you to pick as long as you’d like! They sometime run low on supply after the morning crowds, so if you plan to visit in the afternoon, give them a call at 830-570-3090 and they’ll check the fields and give you live update.

They also offer tasty homemade strawberry treats like strawberry jam, strawberry bread, and strawberry jalapeno jam, so be sure to grab at least one of those on your way out as well.

Rockberry Ranch

Rockberry Ranch not only provides strawberry picking near San Antonio, but MANY other activities as well. At Rockberry Ranch, you’ll find a wide range of activities and experiences that are sure to keep you entertained. Whether you’re interested in berry picking, live music, lavender fields, barnyard games, wagon rides, or the petting corral, there’s something here for everyone.

Due to the immense amount of activites, this farm has an admission fee and you can buy tickets in advance on their website. You can also keep on an on their Facebook page for strawberry crop updates. When you arrive at the farm, sign up for a picking time slot and then go enjoy the other fun things to do while you wait.

SoTex Farm

If you’re a fan of sweet, juicy strawberries, then you’ve got to check out Sotex Farm in Poteet. This family-owned farm has been growing some of the best strawberries around for years, and it’s not hard to see why they’re so popular.

Because they’re grown locally in Texas soil, they have that authentic homegrown taste that you just can’t get from store-bought berries. You can bring your kids along for a fun day on the farm, picking fresh berries straight off the vine.

Five Cousins Strawberry Patch

This ripe, delicious berries are available for picking for as long as the field has plenty of supply. Five Cousins Strawberry Patch will give you some tips, a basket, and some scissors and set you free in the fields to fill it up. A full flat runs about $40, but you only pay for what you pick. They occasionally have pre-picked flats for sell, but don’t plan on that. Typically, all strawberries are pick your own. You are sure to head home with many delicious berries!

Stevens Farm & Ranch Strawberry Farm

Stevens Farm & Ranch, a family-owned and operated strawberry farm located in Poteet is a fantastic spot for strawberry picking near San Antonio. They take pride in producing some of the freshest and tastiest strawberries you’ll ever find.

Fill a half flat of delicious berries for $20 or a full flat for $30. Head out into the fields with your container during designated U-pick hours and fill them with the most delicious and ripest berries!

Three Amigos Strawberry Patch

Started by three friends and one grandson, this farm as grown in staff and also in popularity as one of San Antonio’s strawberry picking hot spots. At Three Amigos, you can fill your own half flat, full flat, or purchase a pre-picked flat. Strawberries are sold for $4 per pound. Watch their Facebook page for update U-pick hours.

Once you’ve gathered up your haul of delicious strawberries from Three Amigos, you are sure to be back for more as soon as you finish the lot! These tasty berries and sweet and delicious!

Kosub Farms

Kosub Farms offers a happy blend of pick your own strawberries and the option to preorder flats for pickup. They also sell jam and…wait for it…strawberry shortcake!
