Pro Tips for Strawberry Picking in Texas

If you’re looking to get your hands on some delicious strawberries in Texas, there are a few tips that can help make your picking experience more enjoyable and successful.

🍓 It’s important to know when the strawberry season begins in Texas. Typically, the best time to pick strawberries is from late March through early June. During this time, many farms throughout the state will open their fields for public picking.

🍓 When choosing a farm to visit, check their crop availability and field update beforehand to ensure they have ripe strawberries available for picking.

🍓Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather conditions and wear comfortable shoes as you’ll likely be doing a lot of walking. Bring along sunscreen and insect repellent if needed.

🍓 When it comes to actually picking the berries, gently grasp each strawberry at its stem and twist and pull upwards until it releases from the plant. Be careful not to damage any neighboring berries or plants while picking.

🍓 It’s also important not to overfill your container as this can cause bruising or crushing of the berries. Instead, opt for smaller containers that are easy to carry or ask if the farm provides baskets or buckets for use during your visit.

🍓 And finally, have fun! Strawberry picking is a fun activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Take in the beautiful scenery around you and savor those juicy red berries – whether eaten fresh on site or made into recipes back home – nothing beats freshly picked strawberries straight from Texas soil!
