We especially love visiting this sweet town in the spring when the landscape is sprinkled with gorgeous Texas bluebonnets and the weather is practically perfect!

Marble Falls has several hiking and biking trails that offer stunning views of the surrounding landscape. One of the most popular trails is the Cottonwood Preserves Nature Pack, which features two canyons and a small but lovely nature walk.

I discovered the sweetest section of this park by accident last spring. I was driving down 1431 and saw a sign for the Visitor’s Center and pulled in on a whim. I was greeted with friendly park rangers and a beautiful little trail that led to a wildlife viewing area, a gorgeous bluebonnet field, the greenest nature walk with an almost tree tunnel feel, and informative signs throughout the park.

A few different entrances lead to several miles of trails. Stop by the Visitor’s Center to pick up a map and get a personal recommendation for exploring one of my favorite things to do in Marble Falls.

Lakeside Park

Historical Things to Do in Marble Falls

Deadman’s Hole

Dead Man’s Hole is a natural limestone hole located south of Marble Falls. The cave was used during the Civil War as a dumping place for the bodies of Union sympathizers. It is believed that as many as 17 bodies were dumped in the hole during this time. The remains of several bodies were recovered from the cave in the late 1860s. Dead Man’s Hole serves as a somber reminder of a dark time in Burnet County history.

When I visited, I was the only one there. I was able to take the time to soak up the natural beauty of the area. Surrounding the historical area are beautiful fields of wildflowers in the spring and ended up bring one of my favorite flower fields.

Falls on the Colorado Museum showcases the history and culture of the city and the surrounding area. Visitors can see exhibits featuring artifacts, photographs, and clothing from different periods of Texas history.

The volunteer staff was very friendly during my visit and happy to answer any questions. I oved seeing the photographs of Marble Falls during its initial growth.

Carnival rides and games, free concerts, and plenty of great food can be found during Mayfest. Mayfest is a great opportunity to enjoy the warm Texas weather and the vibrant spirit of the Marble Falls community.

The “great falls” or “marble falls” of the Colorado River were a key landmark of the town when it was first established in the mid-1800s, but the construction of the Max Starcke Dam in the 1950s effectively submerged the waterfalls under the newly created Lake Marble Falls. Now they are only visible every once in a while, when the lake is lowered during a scheduled drawdown. During these drawdowns, visitors can witness the falls of Marble Falls, which consist of limestone but were believed, by early settlers, to be marble as it was cherty and hard.
